Robert Mercer has been a part of the Academic Support Program since 1996 and has served as its director since October of 2002.

A 1989 graduate of Winthrop with a degree in political science and social sciences, he earned a master's degree in industrial education and human resource development from Clemson in 1991.

Mercer has worked for UNC since 1994, when he became an area director in the school's housing office. He joined the Academic Support Program as an assistant director in 1996 and was promoted to Associate Director in 1999.

Mercer and his wife, Nicolle, have two sons, Nicholas and Jackson. The family also includes a golden retriever named Boone.

Mercer is a member of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Student Athletes. Away from work, he enjoys playing ice hockey.
