JUNIOR (2007)
Recorded a 4.09 ERA over 22 innings • Made 10 appearances, including five starts • Struck out 14 and walked 14, while holding the opposition to a .247 average • Made three appearances in ACC play • Carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning at UNC Wilmington in his first career start Feb. 21 • Allowed just one hit and a walk over a career-best six innings against the Seahawks • Equaled a career best with four strikeouts versus Campbell April 17 • Went 3 1/3 innings and allowed just one run against Coastal Carolina Feb. 28 • Made two relief appearances at Virginia Tech and also started at Boston College in ACC play • Pitched twice in the College World Series against Rice and Oregon State. SOPHOMORE (2006)
Pitched in nine games out of the bullpen for the Tar Heels and recorded a 4.63 ERA and an 0-1 record • Struck out 16 in just 11.2 innings • Allowed just two earned runs over his final five appearances • Fanned four and allowed just one unearned run in three innings against Maryland March 17 • Struck out three over two innings against Davidson April 5 • Struck out the side against George Mason March 14 • Also worked a scoreless frame at Virginia May 12. Summer 2006: Went 1-0 with a 3.14 ERA in five appearances with Southern Ohio of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate Baseball League • Made two starts and worked a total of 14.1 innings • Struck out 16 and walked just seven.
FRESHMAN (2005)
Made one appearance on the season, working one-third of an inning versus Seton Hall Feb. 18. Summer 2005: Played with the Rock Hill Sox of the Southern Collegiate Baseball League • Went 2-0 with a 1.86 ERA in seven appearances • Fanned 31 over 29 innings.
WEST HENDERSON HIGH SCHOOL
Four-year standout for coach Jim Hyatt at West Henderson High School • Played pitcher and infield • All-state and all-region selection in 2003 and '04 • Co-conference player of the year as a senior • As a junior, set a school record with six shutouts and posted a 0.84 earned run average • Led team to three consecutive conference titles and a 70-6 record from 2002-04 • Also played basketball for four years • Active in FBLA. Summer 2004: Played with the American Legion Post 77 team.
