SOPHOMORE (2007)
Was dominating as the Tar Heels' primary midweek starter • Went 12-0 with a 2.17 ERA over 70 2/3 innings • The 12 wins tied for third most at Carolina and rank as the most victories without a loss in school history • Also finished second in the ACC in victories and ranked seventh nationally • Made 15 appearances, including 12 starts • Earned a win in 11 of his 12 starts • Struck out 49 and walked just 28 • Gave up just nine extra-base hits and held opponents to a .220 batting average • 2.17 ERA would have ranked second in the ACC with enough innings to qualify • Tied for seventh in the ACC with four pickoffs • Named to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-Atlantic Region second team • Voted to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III second team • Named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll • Earned a pair of victories in the College World Series, allowing just six hits over 10 1/3 innings against Mississippi State and Rice • Worked 4 1/3 shutout innings of relief and struck out four as the Tar Heels rallied to defeat the Bulldogs 8-5 in their CWS opener June 15 • Came back June 21 to allow just three runs on three hits over six innings to beat No. 1 Rice in an elimination game • Struck out five and allowed just three hits over a career-best seven shutout innings in a win over No. 25 East Carolina April 24 • Fanned a career-best nine batters in just five innings against Davidson March 28 • Struck out seven over six innings in his first start of the season against Gardner-Webb Feb. 27 • Beat Duke in his lone ACC start of the season after giving up just five hits over five innings in the second game of a doubleheader April 14 • Topped Elon with 6 1/3 shutout innings on the road May 8 • Started against Georgia Tech in the ACC Tournament and allowed two runs over 4 1/3 innings • Also picked up wins over Temple, Elon, Towson, UNC Wilmington and Winthrop. Summer 2007: Pitched for the Brewster Whitecaps of the Cape Cod League • Was 0-3 with a 7.71 ERA in eight games • Made four starts • Struck out 22 and walked 14 in 23 1/3 innings.
FRESHMAN (2006)
Made 15 appearances, including three midweek starts • Posted a 4.81 ERA and a 1-0 record over 24.1 innings • Struck out 15 batters • Lone win of the season came against Towson March 21 • Allowed two runs on five hits over three innings against the Tigers • Also made starts against High Point April 26 and Campbell May 9 and struck out a season-high three batters in both games • Worked a season-long 5.1 innings against the Camels • Made three appearances in the NCAA Tournament and allowed two earned runs over three innings • Worked a scoreless frame against Winthrop June 3 and allowed zero earned runs in 1.1 innings against Oregon State June 25 • Member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll. Summer 2006: Posted a 3.65 ERA in 37 innings with New Bern of the Coastal Plain League • Made seven appearances, including six starts • Struck out 39 and walked just 15 • Went 2-3 on the season.
