2005 - Junior Season
Ranked sixth in the ACC in punting (41.1) • Punted six times for an average of 36.5 yards at Virginia Tech • Punted seven times for an average of 40.3 yards against Duke • Had a punt of 52 yards against the Blue Devils • Punted seven times for an average of 41.1 yards against Maryland • Had five punts for an average of 43.8 yards, including a long of 51, against Boston College • Punted seven times for 286 yards, an average of 40.9 yards • Had five punts for an average of 45.6 yards in the win over Virginia • Had a 49-yarder against the Cavaliers and placed one inside the 20-yard line • Punted three times for 96 yards (32.0 avg.) against Louisville • Punted five times for an average of 39.8 against Utah • Had a great hang time against the Utes and no punts were returned • Punted five times for an average of 40.8 yards against NC State • Had a long of 50 against the Wolfpack and had one punt downed inside the 20-yard line • Punted eight times against Wisconsin for an average of 43.2 • Had a long of 56 against the Badgers • Had eight punts for an average of 43.2 yards at Georgia Tech, including a long of 48 yards • Six of the eight punts pinned the Yellow Jackets inside the 20-yard line.
2004 - Sophomore Season
Averaged 41.7 yards on 48 punts with a long of 60 yards • Ranked fifth in the ACC in punting • More than half of his 48 punts (25) were downed inside the 20-yard line • Punted seven times for an average of 41.1 yards, including a long of 49 yards, in the Continental Tire Bowl vs. Boston College • Punted four times for 173 yards, including a season-long of 60 yards, in the 40-17 win at Duke • Three of the kicks against the Blue Devils were downed inside the 20-yard line • Booted seven punts for an average of 44.6 yards, including a 57-yard effort, in the win at Wake Forest • Three of those punts were downed inside the Wake Forest 20-yard line •Had three punts against Virginia Tech and downed one inside the Hokie 20-yard line • Punted four times for an average of 31.5 yards against No. 4 Miami • Three of his punts were directional punts designed to go away from Miami's Devin Hester that went out of bounds and two were less than 25 yards • Booted his final punt of the evening in the fourth quarter straight ahead for 52 yards and forced a Hester fair catch • Booted five punts for an average of 45.6 yards at Utah, including a 50-yarder • Three of his five punts against the Utes were downed inside the Utah 20-yard line •Punted three times for 134 yards, an average of 44.7 against NC State •Punted five times for 178 yards, an average of 35.6 against Florida State • All five punts were downed inside the FSU 20-yard line • Did not play against Louisville •Booted five punts for an average of 43.4 yards in the win over Georgia Tech • Three of those punts were downed inside the Yellow Jackets' 20-yard line • He had a long punt of 52 yards in the game •Punted three times for an average of 47.7 yards and had a 55 yard punt at Virginia • Had two punts for 84 yards, an average of 42.0, against William & Mary • Both punts were downed inside the William & Mary 20-yard line.
2003 - Freshman Season
Became the Tar Heels' starting punter in the final five games of the season • Punted 27 times for 1,218 yards, an average of 45.1 yards per punt • Had a long of 61 yards on his first career punt in the season-opener against Florida State • His 45.1-yard average would have ranked second in the conference and eighth in the country if he had enough attempts (he needed just two more) • Averaged over 40 yards in all seven games he punted • Had six punts over 50 yards • Nine punts were downed inside the 20-yard line • Averaged 48.0 yards per punt on three attempts at Maryland • Redshirted in 2002.
Davie High School
Made all-state as a punter and a place-kicker as a senior • All-Northwest Region and all-conference selection as a junior and senior • Made 28 of 34 career field goals and 58 of 61 career point after attempts • Averaged 44.5 yards per punt, made 12 of 17 field goals and 37 of 39 extra points as a senior • Did not miss a field goal (12 for 12) under 45 yards as a senior • Was a perfect 10 of 10 in field goal attempts as a junior • Longest field goal was a 49-yarder as a junior • Also booted a 45-yarder as a senior • Team was 9-2 and tied for the conference championship as a senior • Coached by Doug Illing.
