Boyd And Pomeroy Advances At ITA National Championships

Nov. 4, 2004

ANN ARBOR, MICH. - The doubles team of senior Geoff Boyd and junior Brad Pomeroy from the University of North Carolina captured its Round of 16 match Thursday at the 2004 Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Collegiate Indoor Championships at the University of Michigan's Varsity Indoor Tennis Center. Pomeroy, an Asheville, N.C. native, and Boyd, who hails from Atlanta, Ga., defeated Mark Growcott and Ken Skupski of Louisiana State University 8-6.

The UNC duo, who captured the Mideast Regional doubles championship in Chapel Hill a week ago last Monday, now advances to the quarterfinals where Pomeroy and Boyd will meet a doubles team from the host school. Ryan Heller and Brian Hung of Michigan upset the No. 3 seeded team of Ludovic Walter and Jason Zimmerman of Duke 9-8 (10-8) in the Round of 16 on Friday.
