Lindsey Joins Carolina Volleyball Coaching Staff

Feb. 17, 2005

Erin Lindsey, formerly Erin Berg, was recently added to the University of North Carolina volleyball coaching staff, head coach Joe Sagula announced Thursday. A 1999 UNC alum and native of Honolulu, Hawaii, replaces former assistant Jill Lytle-Wilson.

Lindsey was a standout member of the UNC volleyball team from 1995-1998. A two-time All-ACC player and AVCA All-Region selection, Lindsey was a two-year captain and the 1998 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year. That year she led the Tar Heels to the ACC regular season title and the second round of the NCAA Tournament, the first NCAA appearance for UNC under Sagula. The program's all-time leader in career assists, Lindsey was named to the ACC's 50th Anniversary Team as one of the greatest players in league history.

"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to be back in Chapel Hill as a member of the UNC volleyball program," Lindsey said. "I look forward to contributing to the continuing success of Carolina volleyball both at the conference and national levels. It was an amazing experience to represent Carolina as a student-athlete and I expect it to be even more rewarding to lead and support these talented young women in representing UNC."

After an outstanding career on the court, Lindsey began her coaching career with the Tar Heels as an undergraduate assistant in 1999, when the team earned an ACC Championship and another appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. During her time in Chapel Hill and the Triangle area, she also coached junior volleyball programs for two years with the Club Raleigh Volleyball program.

"Erin knows what it takes to win," Coach Sagula said. "She comes with an outstanding work ethic both as a player and as a professional, and her leadership has grown into her coaching. It's great to have Erin back in Chapel Hill contributing once again to the success of our program."

Lindsey's coaching experience includes her most recent stop in Austin, Texas, where she coached with the Austin Junior Volleyball club, one of the top junior programs in the country. She also worked as a marketing director and consultant for the Austin Sports Center since 2004, and with Tocquigny Advertising, Interactive and Marketing from 2002 to 2004. Erin is married to 2000 Carolina alum Harold Lindsey.
